rik Rothenstein (1973, Slovakia, Bratislava) jazz bariton saxophone player. He is leading his own Quintet, where the core of the repertoire are his author´s compositions and also performs as a sideman in several bands and projects. His band plays modern mainstream jazz combined with etnic elements of middle-eastern and south Europe. He has studied at conservatory in Bratislava alto saxophone. After the graduation he left for Austrian Graz to Music university (Kunst Universität Graz) to jazz department, where he started playing baritone sax and started doing composition and arranging.

During his studies he began to play jazz, where he drew the inspiration mainly from the bebop tradition and west coast (A. Pepper, P. Desmand, L. Konitz, G. Mulligan ...) He was founding member of Pressburger Klezmer Band. He performed as a leader with his quartet and quintet and as a sideman in former Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and west Europe. ( For example with Nothing but swing trio, Juraj Bartoš, Matúš Jakabčic and other local musicians , also with Austrian guitarist Karl Ratzer, or with Serbian musicans Adam Klem, Milan Nikolič, Andjelko Stupar and with various Big Bands ). He cooperates with the Band of flamenco guitarist Flaco de Nerja, which is playing a modern fusion of flamenco music and jazz. He is also a member of jazz Big band - Gustav Brom Orchestra, cooperates with The Hope Gospel Singers in Bratislava and also performs with orchestra playing contemporary classical music – Melos Ethos Ansamble.

He also composes and arranges. His compositions are based on classical mainstream jazz, but also on Jewish, Slovak and Balkan folk songs, as well as on forms of European classical music.
